What LIV Golf has planned for employees being let go in demise of 'LIV 1.0'

LIV Golf’s season came to a close just last week, and as it faces a possible shutdown, the breakaway circuit is promising to take care of its employees — and some might be presented with an opportunity to return.
The pathway comes after a funding pull from the PIF announced earlier in the year, as the circuit was forced to cancel two events, including its $40 million team finale in Michigan.
LIV Golf did secure a new investor, but CEO Scott O’Neil has yet to confirm how much money they will be receiving from the unnamed source. The 2027 season is set to feature just 10 events, and players will receive a stake in the league's equity.

Employees have also been informed of potential layoffs in the near future, with final paychecks expected in October for some.
However, Mirror U.S. Sports understands that the tour has a plan to support its current staffers.
“LIV Golf is committed to communicating clearly and transparently with all employees and doing everything it can to support and care for impacted employees during this challenging time,” according to LIV Golf sources.

“Additionally, select roles will be required to ensure LIV Golf is well-positioned for this transition to its next chapter and continuing to work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality.”

LIV Golf also noted that there is potential for employees to return after the transition.
“While the size and shape of a potential LIV 2.0 will be different from the current organization, no final decisions have been made about any go-forward positions in LIV Golf 2.0 (League and Team roles) at this time,” the sources continued.
“Further information will be shared as the transaction process advances over the next few months, and the League expects to be in contact with employees regarding opportunities with LIV 2.0 should it move forward.”

No one is sure what the future looks like for LIV Golf as rumors swirl that two-time major winner Jon Rahm could be departing the circuit, as they reportedly still owe him around $150 million.
Lucas Herbert confirmed at LIV Golf New York that his manager has reached out to the PGA Tour if worst comes to worst.
“I haven't personally had any discussions but I think my manager has,” said Herbert in Bedminster. “If LIV were to go away and you've got nowhere to play, I think ultimately you need somewhere to play as a professional golfer.
“So we're just doing due diligence, having that conversation. As I said, I haven't had it personally, and my preference would be to still be playing out here if that was still an option.”
