Just a few weeks after the 2025 U.S. Open, Venus Williams married her partner, actor-producer Andrea Preti. The tennis legend, who has 49 singles titles to date including two U.S. Open championships and five Wimbledon titles, had confirmed their engagement just a few weeks prior in a post-match interview after winning her first-round match at the 2025 D.C. Open on July 22.

“You are now an engaged woman. So, how has Andrea helped you in this comeback? You’re happy, a smile on your face. I mean, how much has he made a difference in your life?” Rennae Stubbs, the on-court interviewer and former tennis pro, asked Williams on the court.

“My fiancé is here and he really encouraged me to keep playing,” Williams replied. “There were so many times where I just wanted to coast and kind of chill. Do you know how hard it is to play tennis? You guys don’t know how much work goes into this, like it’s 9 to 5 except you’re running the whole time. Lifting weights and just like dying and then you repeat it the next day. So he encouraged me to get through this and it’s wonderful to be here. He’s never seen me play.”

This evening, Preti is expected to join Williams at the Met Gala, their first appearance at the major event as a couple. Curious to learn more about Venus Williams’s husband? Here are a few facts you about Andrea Preti:

Andrea is from Denmark.

Half Italian and half Danish, Preti grew up in Denmark, but his family moved to Italy when he was a teenager.

He got his start in modeling.

It was after the family moved to Italy that Preti became involved with fashion, eventually pursuing modeling. He later attended the Susan Batson Academy in New York City to study acting.

Andrea wrote, acted in, and directed his first movie in 2014.

After arriving in New York, Andrea started where many actors do: television commercials. He also started to develop his own projects; since 2013, Preti has written and directed four films. He debuted two films in 2014 back-to-back, One More Day and The Wolf Man. Per his IMDB page, he is currently developing an untitled project set in 19th-century southern Italy that addresses homophobia and societal prejudice.

The couple were first linked in 2024.

Williams and Preti were first spotted while boating together off Italy’s Amalfi Coast in July 2024. Engagement rumors sparked as soon as February 2025 when Williams was seen with a diamond ring on her hand during a tennis training session in Rome.

According to Vogue’s recap of their “five-day” wedding, the couple specifically met at Milan Fashion Week. “We met at the Gucci show,” Williams told the magazine. “I was in Lake Como on a sisters’ trip when I got an invite at the last minute and decided to go on a whim, and Andrea was tired. Neither of us was planning on being there.”

Fittingly, Williams and Preti made their first public appearance together as a couple at the place where it all started: Milan Fashion Week. The pair attended the Dsquared2 womenswear show on February 25, where Williams was seen wearing a diamond ring on her left hand.

They had multiple wedding ceremonies.

The couple actually first exchanged vows in Ischia, a volcanic island off the coast of Naples that has long been a popular vacation getaway for both Italian and international tourists. As they told The Knot, it was meant to be a beautiful gesture to the groom’s family. “It's a dream,” Preti said. “Because if you thought for all your life that you want to get married one day, and you want to have a family, and the day comes? You know that, of course, you have to [feel it]: That's the day. The emotions I had inside were fireworks—’Yeah, we made it. You know, we are here today. Now let's start, start our new journey together.' Sometimes I cannot talk. I release my emotions. I cry, but I cry with joy, yes. I always wanted to have a family.”

But legally, they required a second ceremony, thus the extended wedding week in Palm Beach, reflecting the bride’s side. “In Italy, it takes a while to get paperwork for a wedding with a foreigner. We didn't have enough time to do it,” Williams explained. “It takes, like, months and months. That just wouldn’t have worked. So we had to have a second wedding. And we decided, ‘What a great opportunity, to have two weddings.’”
