Trump hints at next body of water he will rename after Lake America chaos

President Donald Trump has seemingly hinted at which bodies of water he plans to rename next after changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake Amercia on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, Trump hinted that he may try to change the names of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. "The lake change, the Lake of America, was something I've been thinking about for a long time, actually," the president said to reporters.

"As you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico, we changed it, and now it's very routinely the Gulf of America," he added, referring to the executive order he signed moments after taking office. "So, if you think about it, we have a Gulf and we have a lake."

"Now, all we need is an ocean," he said, amusing himself. "So, maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and or the Pacific. Maybe we will change them both."

Many on social media seemed to have had enough of the president's antics. "Putting 'America' on maps in Sharpies doesn’t make America great," one person raged.

"I just know this will definitely help with groceries and gas," another added in reference to the ever-rising cost of living and gasoline due to the Iran war that started in February. One person unleashed on the president, calling Trump "narcissistic" and "deranged."

"He is just getting started.... this is the most narcissistic, deranged, Bastard in America, he is seriously losing all touch with reality, he is very dangerous," they wrote. "He is definitely out of control and surrounded by a bunch of Yes Men and Yes Women, blind loyalty!"

"I presume the Pacific," another added. "Or maybe he will name it the Belligerent Ocean (less woke doncha know) and have the American Ocean outside his place in Florida."

A third person sarcastically remarked, "Has he got nothing better to do than delusional ramblings?" A fourth said, "Based on the trend of renaming bodies of water I say we go with East American Ocean and West American Ocean..."

Perhaps the question on everyone's mind now is whether the president has the authority to rename the oceans. The short answer is no.

While the U.S. controls roughly 12 miles of sea in either direction, the president does not have the power to rename the seas or force any other country to acknowledge a change, as global maritime naming standards are typically set by the International Hydrographic Organization.

Now, there is a chance the president could sign an executive order directing the U.S. Board on Geographic Names and the Department of the Interior to recognize the name. This would then require all federally produced maps, military charts, educational materials, and federal documentation to reflect the change.

The president made the announcement on Thursday from the Oval Office. While speaking to reporters, the president said he and his team had filed all of the necessary paperwork to rename the lake, "effective immediately."

Lake Ontario is bounded on the north, west, and southwest by Ontario, and on the south and east by New York.

"This is official," said Trump, after signing an executive order. "We filed all the necessary papers and documents, and notified all the people we had to notify."

The news comes as tensions continue to grow between Canada and the U.S. "The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America," Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier this week.

He added, "because we don’t expect to be doing much business with Ontario any longer."

Trade dispute between the two nations escalated over the weekend as talks broke down.
