‘Today’ Has Dramatic Swing in Ratings Battle with ‘GMA’ & ‘CBS Mornings’

The morning show ratings for the week of August 17 are in, and it’s good news for NBC’s Today, which was the only show to post growth in one of the two measured categories.
According to AdWeek, citing Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings, Today took the No. 1 spot in total viewers and the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic for the week of August 17. The show averaged 2.818 million total viewers and 582,000 demo viewers.
Today, co-hosted by Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, was up 2 percent in total viewers but down 1 percent in the demo compared with the prior week. Compared to the same period in 2025, the show was up a huge 18 percent in total viewers and up 13 percent in the demo.
ABC’s Good Morning America averaged 2.738 million total viewers and 440,000 demo viewers for the week of August 17. This was down 1 percent in total viewers and down 5 percent in the demo compared to the previous week.

The show, co-hosted by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, was up year over year in total viewers, with a 7 percent increase. However, it was down 1 percent in the demo.

Meanwhile, CBS Mornings averaged 1.602 million total viewers and 258,000 demo viewers for the week of August 17. This was down 6 percent in total viewers and down 6 percent in the demo compared to the week before.
Compared to last year, CBS Mornings, hosted by Gayle King and Nate Burleson, was down 5 percent in total viewers and down 17 percent in the demo. It was the only show to be down across both measured categories in the year-over-year comparison.
