Priyanka Chopra Jonas exclusively told PEOPLE about her 4-year-old daughter Malti’s fashion and beauty sense

“[She’s] doing it well at a young age,” the proud mom said

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is touting her daughter’s fashion and beauty sense.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at InStyle‘s Imagemaker Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 15, the 44-year-old actress discussed what she hopes to teach her and her husband Nick Jonas‘ 4-year-old daughter, Malti, about beauty and style as she gets older.

“I already feel she has inherent style — she picks her own clothes,” she said. “We’ve always given her agency, and she always is well turned out.”

Chopra Jonas added, “When it comes to beauty, you just have to know who you are and have a sense of self, and that always ends up being confident and beautiful … she’s, you know, doing it well at a young age.”

The Miss World 2000 winner and the Sunday Best singer, 34, announced in January 2022 that they welcomed Malti, their only child, via surrogate just over three years after they got married in a lavish multi-day wedding.

The couple has kept her upbringing mostly private, though they occasionally share glimpses on social media.

In a May cover story for Vogue Arabia, Chopra Jonas spoke about navigating family life with her “hands-on” husband and their daughter.

“My whole existence revolves around her, what time she has to go to school,” the proud mother said. “She is the best thing I’ve accomplished in my life and represents the best of Nick and me.”

“My husband is very hands-on and even today — because I had to jump on this interview — he was the one preparing her for silly hair day at school. He did the cutest lopsided pigtails on her,” Chopra Jonas said at the time of the cover shoot. “Our baby is like a magnet to us, and we run to her wherever we are in the world.”

At the Imagemaker Awards, the Quantico star was honored with the Woman of Impact Award for her work on and off-camera to help amplify women’s voices, shed light on on-screen stereotypes and spotlight the work women are doing.

Discussing what she thinks “young Priyanka” would say if she could see herself receiving this award, the actress said, “I don’t think she’d believe it.”

She continued, “I don’t think I had hopes that were so — at that time for my younger self — completely hyper unrealistic.”

“I never thought this happens to everyday people, and I think she would have been more than anything, really surprised by my will to survive, my tenacity, because when I was young, I was really shy and introverted, so I think she would have been surprised, for sure,” Chopra Jonas concluded.
