Prince William Admits He Tried to “Move” Travis Kelce Out of His Now-Viral Taylor Swift Photo

Prince William shared the backstory to his now-viral selfie with Taylor Swift during a history-making TV appearance on October 23.

The royal admitted he didn’t want Swift’s now-husband Travis Kelce in the photo and actively tried to “move” him out of the photo.

William appeared on Kelce’s podcast shortly before the NFL star got married to Swift on July 3.

As Prince William made a history-making TV appearance on the Graham Norton Show on October 23, the senior royal got candid about the backstory to his now-viral photo with Taylor Swift. William admitted that he didn’t want Swift’s now-husband Travis Kelce in the selfie, and even tried to “move” the Kansas City Chiefs photo out of the backstage photo-op.

While appearing with Earthshot Prize supporters Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, and Robert Irwin on Norton’s iconic red couch, William was shown a photo of the selfie, which was snapped during Swift’s Eras tour stop in London in June 2024.

While the Wembley Stadium selfie marked the ultimate Swiftie fan moment for William as well as his kids Prince George, 13, and Princess Charlotte, 11, Norton also noted that the “Patient Zero” used the image to hard-launch her relationship with Kelce, whom she hadn’t previously posted on social media.

William admitted he hadn’t been aware of the significance of the image “until recently,” explaining, “I hadn’t appreciated the picture. And actually, I was trying to move him [Travis Kelce] out of the photo. Travis kept coming back in and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in. I was trying to move him out, so it was just me and Taylor and the children.”

However, it appears Kelce wasn’t aware of the slight, as he previously told his brother Jason that he was starstruck meeting the heir to the throne as well as his children.

“He was the coolest motherfucker,” he said at the time.  “They were an absolute delight to me, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bow to them or curtsy, or just be an American idiot and shake their hand.” Meanwhile, William appeared on Kelce’s podcast shortly before the athlete tied the knot with Swift on July 3.

William and Swift’s friendship goes back to 2013, when they sat together during a Kensington Palace gala for the Centrepoint charity. William famously joined the “Blank Space” singer as well as Bon Jovi to sing “Livin’ On a Prayer” on stage.

“To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in,” William recounted during a 2021 interview with Apple Fitness+’s Time To Walk, per The Independent.

He explained, “But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, OK, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”
