For years, Caroline was one of Britain's biggest television stars, known as the host of shows like *The Xtra Factor*, *I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here Now!,* and, of course,* Love Island. *She also won the BBC show* Strictly Come Dancing* in 2014.
But the dark side of her fame manifested in the relentless scrutiny that Caroline faced from both the media and the public. In 2020, her family confirmed that she was found dead in her London flat after taking her own life.

Prior to her death, Caroline had to step down from her hosting duties after she was charged with assaulting her partner in December 2019. At the time, she had been dating tennis player Lewis Burton and had admitted to hitting him with a mobile phone after reading a message that led her to believe he had acted unfaithfully. She was due to stand trial in March 2020, after prosecutors decided to proceed with an assault charge.
Coroner Mary Hassell would later publicly highlight the immense stress Caroline endured in the months leading up to her death, arguing that she took her own life due after learning that she would be prosecuted.
"She knew she would face the media, press, publicity — it would all come down upon her," Hassell said.
