Harmon left the original series after 18 seasons in 2021

He will appear in all episodes of Origins' next season

Mark Harmon's Gibbs is getting more screen time.

CBS announced Tuesday, June 30, that the NCIS alum, 74, will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in all episodes of NCIS: Origins season 3.

The series EP and narrator, who has been part of the spinoff since its 2024 debut, will appear in the new season within a "present-day mystery tied to his ‘90s Camp Pendleton days in an action-packed story that unfolds all season long," per the network.

Harmon briefly appeared on the series during its 2024 premiere and again during a November 2025 crossover event between NCIS and NCIS: Origins. The prequel series follows a young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in the years leading up to NCIS.

Origins is set in the early '90s and also stars Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote.

Harmon originated the character for 18 seasons on NCIS before departing in 2021. Co-showrunners and executive producers David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal shared in an October press release that Gibbs was "no longer alone" after disappearing to Alaska in pursuit of solitude.

Harmon's November stint on Origins — in the episode “Funny How Time Slips Away" — found him returning to the character to reflect on his life and spend a little time with a pup. He spoke with The Wrap about the moment, calling it "interesting to be able to reveal a glimpse of how he is living."

He added that the end result “made me smile,” explaining that "it’s a very short little bit, but the audience will get a chance to know things about him that they don’t know already."

The third season of NCIS: Origins will air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT in the fall on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.
