- The couple share joint custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Juno.

- Turner-Smith admitted that one of the biggest parenting challenges has been "navigating the conversation" with their young daughter surrounding their split.

Jodie Turner-Smith is sharing her approach to co-parenting with ex-husband Joshua Jackson.

During a recent visit to Hoda Kotb's *Joy 101 *podcast, the model and actress shared that she and Jackson have been very intentional when it comes to speaking to their 6-year-old daughter, Juno, about their split.

"I'm a child of divorce myself and so is my ex husband," Turner-Smith told Kotb in the June 29 episode. "So it's like it's always been important to think about, 'Okay, what is the language around which we are going to talk about this with our daughter?' Because it is her new reality."

She continued, "We're learning as well and not always getting it totally right — but the idea is always two homes filled with love. And I'm like, 'You got two houses, girl.'"

The *Queen & Slim *actress shared that because Juno was just 3 years old when they split, the biggest challenge has been "navigating the conversation with her that's like, 'Why is this happening?'"

Turner-Smith said she was determined to make the conversation "age appropriate and child-centered" but at the same time keep it "real, so that she has an understanding of what this means."

To that end, the* Agency *star noted that her "favorite tool" had been books about parenting amid divorce and children's books.

Turner-Smith's rare remarks about her split from Jackson come two months after PEOPLE reported that the former couple had hired a private judge to finalize their custody arrangements, nearly a year after finalizing their divorce.

The couple initially agreed to joint custody when finalizing their divorce in May 2025, and per documents reviewed by the outlet, agreed that Jackson would pay $2,787 in monthly child support. However, a conflict emerged the following month when Jackson filed an emergency motion alleging that his ex-wife had changed their daughter's school without his permission. In his filing, Jackson expressed concern that Turner-Smith was "attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school."

During her visit to Kotb's podcast, Turner-Smith did not hesitate when the host asked one of her signature questions: what has been the most source of joy in Turner's life as of late?

"My daughter," she swiftly replied. "She's 6 now, and you know, it's so interesting like all the different changes that kids go through, and at every stage, I feel like someone's like, 'Oh, this is the best stage, this is the best stage.'"
