Gladys Knight just announced a “new era” of her career amid health concerns while on tour.
On Thursday, August 27, Knight released a statement via Instagram after fans expressed serious worries about the “Midnight Train to Georgia” singer, 82.
“After much soul searching I’ve decided that I will be easing into fewer performances while focusing on transitioning into the next state of my career and life moving forward,” the message began. “I’ll be spending more time on projects with my husband and visiting with my grandbabies and am looking forward to this new era.”
Knight continued, “I’d like to take a moment, in advance, to thank all my fans over this last three quarters of a century for making a little girl’s dream come true and supporting her every step of the way. I am immensely grateful to all of you and send my eternal love back to you.”
The Motown icon concluded, “I hope to see your smiling faces out and about and on the road. God bless all of you and hope to see you soon. With love, Gladys.”

In the comments, fans showered Knight with words of support and gratitude. One Instagram user wrote, “Ms. Gladys [has] been a staple in my family life for decades. I finally got to see her last August and ba[w]led my eyes out singing every song. You have done an amazing job.”
Another shared, “Thank you for the music, the memories, and all that you’ve given to this industry! You’ve always been the epitome of class, the personification of sophistication, and the blueprint for soul! We love you @msgladysknight!”

In recent months, Knight sparked concern during her solo tour, at times with Smokey Robinson. During shows, concertgoers noticed she sometimes looked confused and stared blankly as the backup vocalists sang. Some even speculated whether she had dementia, per TMZ. Knight had concert dates booked through November before announcing she would cut back on shows.
After rising to fame in the ’60s and ’70s, Knight became known for songs like “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye,” “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” “I Heart It Through the Grapevine,” and more.
