The Glee-boot is officially happening.
Disney+ and Hulu announced the musical series, which originally aired on Fox from 2009 through 2015, is coming back. During its initial six-season run, the beloved series — co-created by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk — earned six Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes.
Glee followed the members of a glee club at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio, as they competed in the show choir circuit. The ensemble cast included Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Mark Salling, Jonathan Groff and many more. Three cast members — Monteith, Rivera and Salling — have died since the series debuted.

Murphy has been teasing the Glee reboot for a while.
“That show is interesting because it’s come back around,” the Monster creator told PEOPLE in July. “So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.’ ”
He continued, “My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I’m like, ‘Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ So yeah, I love that show and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people.”
Then, in September, Murphy shared that he finished a script for the potential reboot after being asked what a reboot would entail in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I just finished the script an hour ago,” Murphy told the outlet. “We have a script. Brad, Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”
Murphy then teased the cast. “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members, and it’s very sweet,” he said. “They’ve all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

The cast of the Glee reboot has not yet been announced. However, a handful of stars have alluded to their return.
Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce, shared a photo of herself in character wearing a Cheerios uniform on Instagram following the reboot news.
She captioned the post, “Yes ladies and gentle men of women, rumors are true. Brittany S Pierce was in fact lost in the sewers for all these years. But I’m here to inform you that she is alive and well… And back for more #Glee.”
Meanwhile, McHale, who portrayed student Artie Abrams, reposted a March 2020 report from Genius that read, “drake has officially passed the cast of ‘glee’ and now has the most billboard hot 100 hits of all time.”
In McHale’s post, he wrote, “Challenge accepted.”

Before the news officially dropped, several other original cast members spoke about their thoughts on potentially returning to the series.
Michele, who played student Rachel Berry, told E! News in September, “I love Glee. I will always love Glee. I love Ryan Murphy. [The show] just holds such a special place in my heart for me. So, I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
The same month, Lynch — who portrayed the iconic cheer coach Sue Sylvester — told Kylie Kelce on the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast, “I haven’t heard anything about [the reboot], but I’d be the first in line to do it.”
