Celebrity Stylist Nick Arrojo On 2026's Hottest Hairstyles
Are you still in the “new year, new me” mindset, or have you moved on to the demands of Real Life? Even if you haven’t seen the inside of the gym in weeks and your monthly budget has turned into a mere suggestion, it’s not too late to switch things up in other facets of your life. And what better way to do something different — without a major commitment — than getting a fresh haircut?
When we need the lowdown on the hottest hairstyles and the most flattering ways to frame our faces, we turn to celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo. (Yes, that Nick Arrojo from the original What Not to Wear.) He says 2026 is all about leaning into more balanced and refined cuts: Here’s more on the style shifts we’ll see this year, the colors everyone will be trying, and more.
Biggest Hair Trends of 2026, According to a Celebrity Stylist -
The rise of sculpted softness in haircuts
“In 2026, we’ll see a shift toward haircuts that balance structure with softness,” Arrojo says. “Clients still want shape and personalization, but without the rigidity of classic geometry. Think layered bobs, fluid shags, and modern pixies with movement built into the silhouette. It’s precision with ease — hair that looks intentional but never overworked.” We're moving away from the chunky, dramatic layers of The Rachel and toward Dakota Johnson’s shag, with layers so subtly blended, you almost can’t see them.

Sleek styling makes a modern comeback
“After years of undone, air-dried texture, sleek styling is making a return — but with a contemporary twist," Arrojo explains. "We’re talking glossy blowouts, refined ponytails, and smooth, polished finishes that feel both confident and minimal." (He calls it "elegant without the fuss.") In the past, sleek hair could look and feel weighed down. But Arrojo notes, "The tools and products have improved so much that sleek hair can now be even more lightweight, touchable, and wearable.”
Color that enhances, not overpowers
“Clients are asking for color that elevates their natural shade rather than masking it. For 2026, expect soft-diffused tones with gradual color transitions and ashy hues — mushroom brunettes, golden neutrals, beige blondes — with placement that creates subtle dimension and glow.” Celebs who’ve sported mushroom brunette include J.Lo, Emily Ratajkowski, and Hailey Bieber.
Arrojo adds, “Bold color will always have its moment, but the biggest trend is personalized, lived-in luminosity. It’s about making the hair look healthy, expensive, and real.”
