Big Brother celebrated 1,000 episodes on Thursday with a live audience filled with all-stars from the reality competition’s past 27 seasons.
Janelle Pierzina, Dan Gheesling, Rachel Reilly, and The Cookout alliance all took home fan-voted awards.
Host Julie Chen Moonves ended the record-breaking installment of the CBS reality competition by revealing a twist “no one could have expected.”

The CBS reality competition celebrated it’s record-breaking 1,000th episode on Thursday with an all-star packed awards ceremony that ended with a season 28 competitor going home and host Julie Chen Moonves announcing a new twist she promises is “guaranteed to change everything.” (If you haven’t watched the episode, don’t worry: We’re not going to spoil who went home tonight in this story.)
The 90-minute episode kicked off with Moonves announcing the winners that fans voted for online over the past few weeks.
Out of everything that’s happened over the 2,350 days houseguests have spent competing in the Big Brother house, fans voted “Dan’s funeral” as their favorite moment.
As for Best Player to Never Win, the finalists were Danielle Reyes, Paul Abrahamian, Vanessa Rousso, Janelle Pierzina, Morgan Pope, and Tyler Crispen. The winner? Janelle Pierzina, who also won the award for Comp Beast.
Favorite Alliance went to The Cookout, and Favorite Quote was Rachel Reilly’s “Floaters, grab a life vest.”
For the Favorite Winner, the finalists were Taylor Hale, Jun Song, Dan Gheesling, Dr. Will Kirby, Rachel Reilly, and Derrick Levasseur, with Dan Gheesling taking the title.
Big Brother itself also got some accolades, with a Guinness World Records representative taking the stage to award the show with a certificate for “most episodes of a competition reality TV show” and another for “most episodes of a primetime TV show.”

After a detour to actual season 28 gameplay (a BB Blockbuster competition between the nominated houseguests — Drew Campbell, Mallory Aurichio, Taylor Brown — and an eviction), attention returned to Moonves and her big announcement.
Touting the next compeition, set in the year 1,000 “of course,” Moonves revealed “This unprecedented twist will challenge the houseguests socially and competitively. There will be no Head of Household, no Veto competition, no Blockbuster, but when all is said and done, someone’s game will come to an end before the next live eviction.”
Then the host offered up a sneak peek of the competition, revealing footage of Big Brother all-stars Britney Haynes, Tiffany Mitchell, Kamu Kirk, and Cody Calafiore in royal garb from the medieval era, seemingly there to oversee the proceedings.
“If the houseguests want to make it to jury,” Moonves continued, “they will need to survive the twist.”
But then the host had a shocker for the fans as well: “Because of this week’s twist, the live feeds will be down for the next three days.”
The announcement was met by gasps and boos from the all-star audience.
“Calm down. Settle down.” Moonves chided. “Put your screens away, go outside, smell the flowers. The feeds will return after Sunday’s show.”
