In the photo, which MacDowell shared on Facebook, she stood behind her daughter, hugging her and smiling into the camera. MacDowell wore a black striped mididress, while her daughter, who looked like the spitting image of her mom, wore a matching navy dress. Both mother and daughter wore their hair in matching low updos, with MacDowell sporting her signature grays.
“Happy birthday to my baby girl Sarah Margaret,” wrote MacDowell alongside the photo. “I could not be prouder / we love her dearly / My precious, precious baby Sarah Margaret / Happy birthday cricket”

Margaret is one of the three children that MacDowell shares with ex-husband Paul Qualley. They are also parents to son Justin, 40, and daughter Rainey, 37.
While Margaret has followed in her mother’s footsteps and become an actress, her brother Justin went on to become a real estate agent, while Rainey works as a musician.

Back in 2021, MacDowell and Margaret shared the screen in Maid. “I proposed the idea [of MacDowell playing my mother] and everyone was really excited about it,” Margaret told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “And then I was like, ‘Oh God, I hope she actually does it.’ But luckily she wanted to do it, and she came out right away and then it was heaven. I got to work with somebody that I’ve grown up admiring since the fricking get-go—my very first idol.”
